CMT Diagnosis Touches Hearts in OC

The Orange County Register travels into our office kitchen every week and occasionally it’s flipped through by the intermittent MBW employee. While waiting for his food to finish cooking, Mark Beamish stumbled upon an article that reinforced the drive and passion that we have for our Charity partnership with MDA.

He read about a local mother who had been struggling with CMT for years, but it was only recently diagnosed. For Autumn Mcalpin simple things like opening a jar or buttoning her coat started to seem like daunting tasks. As the symptoms only continued to worsen, she spent the next ten years being passed from one Doctor to another as each of them were stumped by her aliments. Last year she encountered mixed feelings of relief and fear as her disease was finally diagnosed as Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.

There is no known cure for her disease, but everyday through this journey she feels the love and support of the MDA community. She recently participated in her first MDA walk, the same event that our MBW team walked in.

Autumn was overwhelmed by the experience, “Behind sunglasses that hid the tears, I looked around at the dozens of others families who suffered…I marveled at their courage, their strength, their muscle. They are my heroes.”

We have a passion for MDA because of their reach and ability to touch so many lives throughout the globe, but most of all because we are able to see the direct impact of our effort in the lives of those around us. Our communities banding together to create awareness and support for these terrible diseases was an experience that none of us will likely forget.

MDA Muscle Walk Success!

The MDA Muscle Walk was a HUGE success! The MBW team had a great day meeting the MDA kids and joining together as a company to  support such a great organization. MBW doubled our goal and ended up raising just over $1,600, which will send two kids to camp this summer! MDA raised a grand total of $60,000 for the entire walk. What a great experience for us as a company to be a part of!

MBW’s 30th Anniversary

The Celebrate by Giving anniversary event on June 10th, 2011 was such a success, that we have decided to continue the celebration throughout the whole year! For every job that we complete that’s over $30K, we will donate a wheelchair to an impoverished and disabled individual in an area of need, on behalf of that customer. We will donate this wheelchair through Free Wheelchair Mission, an international non-profit organization dedicated to providing the less fortunate with mobility.

We have developed a passion for helping the less fortunate, and this mission in particular has touched our hearts as a company. We have joined together as a team to remember as we celebrate 30 successful years in business, there are those who have not been quite as blessed. Help us reach our goal of donating 300 wheelchairs this year!

Mark Beamish Waterproofing and Profits for Purpose

profits4purpose imageMark Beamish Waterproofing is committed to making our local communities better places to live in alignment with our value of Responsibility. From the very beginning, we have been an active participant in the communities we serve, allocating a large part of yearly revenues to causes and community efforts.

Even in some of the beautiful places where Mark Beamish Waterproofing operates, we have been confronted with a harsh reality: there are plenty of needy people living directly in the shadow of the structures we are contracted to build. As of 2008, we have partnered with a non-profit organization, Profits For Purpose. Our intent is to commit both funds and volunteer time to influence core changes that will reach future generations.

Please check out the Profits For Purpose website for more information on how your company can partner with us as an agent for change in our communities.

The Mark Beamish folks ended up collecting 670 meals for the Food Bank — that was a great total. I was delighted with that — and also with a chance to connect with people on behalf of Westside Food Bank.

And what a fun event! Check out our pictures of the event below!
